Apps to Change the Caller Screen in Android Smartphones

Last updated on January 24, 2021 by Tekpido Writing Team

changing the Android call screen

Android is the most popular smartphone OS these days and it comes with great features and flexibility to modify things, however, in some devices like Nokia or others, the background theme when calling or answering looks ugly, and even not working the way we want. So, changing the theme on your phone will fix the problem if you take care of it.

For Nokia 2 phones, for example, you’ll find a bad calling app by default that works poorly. Even worse, you’ll need to slide, all the way up that button to answer a call. Thus, in terms of usability, it’s not friendly and when you drive the car, you’ll find it uncomfortable to answer a call manually and that’s one of the worst things about some phone manufacturers like Microsoft that acquired Nokia.

Get a new calling screen wallpaper

Even with so many apps and great looking themes that you can download, not all of them work, especially with the latest Android versions. So, there is a need to test dozens of apps until you find the best one that works for your smartphone brand and the exact release version.

In my tests, the best app that works for Nokia phones and others is HD caller Screen with iPhone 6 theme and options. It’s the lightest one that works without crashing the system and it never slows it down.

To get your theme, download the app from the official Google Play Store, then, install and activate it. Next, choose one of the default themes you find and that’s it. However, I recommend turning OFF your old calling app, that way, you test the new application and never cause problems to your Android system. In fact, there can be compatibility issues with different versions and tools, so, it’s better to keep a single active tool and not many.

Unlike the default Nokia calling theme, this new one comes with simple click and answer buttons. Thus, users don’t have to slide any button or complicate things. Even when you drive, you can just click a button and answer or reject a call. Besides, you can change the caller theme with the one you liked, all you have to do is to browse the different designs and add the one you prefer.

Other apps that work

For other smartphones running on Android OS, there is a lot of options to choose from, but I tested a few apps that worked well, and thus, here are the best of them.

Phone 11 Launcher

Like millions of people, I like the iPhone screen look and designs, it’s simple, yet powerful at the same time if you consider the high-performance CPU that Apple uses. Now, if you want to bring that amazing iPhone screen look to your Android screen background, then, install the Phone 11 Launcher app and get good features such as beautiful wallpapers, a smart toggle for Airplane mode, WiFi, etc..

The app has more than 10 million installs in Google Play and it’s updated regularly, which means accurate compatibility with the latest Android releases.

Full Screen Caller ID

If you prefer the full-screen theme when receiving a call or dialing a number, you’ll enjoy using this app, it comes with options to customize the reply or decline buttons and add your photos or videos as caller identities. That makes things easier and better to recognize who the caller is by showing his photo when he calls, and thus, you know from the beginning if you know the person or not.

With the full-screen app, you can replace your actual Android caller screen without complicated settings, it works better than similar tools, and even better. Users can also add a video to the caller ID and block contacts they don’t want to talk to.

For those who look for stats, this app has been installer over 5 million times and it has 40000 reviews with more than 4-star ratings.

Call Screen Themes

This is another free incoming call screen that looks good on any device, it comes with a similar interface to the iPhone one. Moreover, this app has near the 80000 reviews and a good rating in Google Play, it works well without issues, unless you have low RAM installed in the smartphone. So, only install it if you have 2 GB of device RAM at least, to have the best performances and never crashing the Android system.

This app comes with modern theme designs, and some users reported issues linked to performances with low RAM phones. But what I suggest is to clear the RAM if you have an option for that, or simply look for apps on your device that you already have but you’re not using.

In reality, lots of users add applications and then, forget them, which will add extra load to the phone RAM and CPU. In the end, that’s’ what will make any system work slower and that’s not a surprise if you think about the resources different technical things that smartphone include and use like CPU, camera, integrated Antenna, battery, etc…

Caller Theme

This is another good application that I tested, you’ll like it because it has a lot of features compared to other tools. For example, you can customize the dialing and incoming calling design for the screen with your photos. Then, you can modify the calling interface with photos as you want. However, make sure to use a compressed picture that has a small size to avoid causing issues, especially with a big size file that can slow down the whole system.

Smart Photo Screen

I found another cool app that lets you customize the caller interface and get a beautiful picture of your loved ones when they call your number and when you call them back. Here is the app that you can try, some users found it confusing to use, however, if you spend a few minutes testing the settings, you’ll be able to add the best features that you want.

What about paid calling themes?

All the above-recommended apps are free, so, you don’t need to install any premium tool if you look for a simple calling interface that looks great and works fast. However, some apps may show ads if you access them, and that’s annoying, especially with excessive advertising.

So, if you like an app and you want to add more features like themes or settings, then, you can upgrade anytime you need, however, I used all these apps for free and they work without issues.

So, all in all, installing a premium caller interface should not be your first step. You can try the free option, first, and then, compare what you get as features with what the tools add for the premium versions.

In other cases, you may find a great app that works well, but you’ll struggle with their ads. So, if the subscription cost is not that high like a few dollars, then, you can try it. But please don’t buy any expensive app for these easy things, you can find what you need exactly for free.

Be careful with permissions

As there are more privacy concerns these days than at any time before, you need to take your smartphone or tablet security seriously. There is no logic when you give permissions to your device videos, for example, when you just need a photo for the wallpaper. Besides, make sure you take your time reading what the app asks you for before installing or giving special access to folders, etc…

If you think that the app you want to install asks for details or SignUp details like age, gender, etc.. Then stay away and immediately remove it from your device. Many unwanted apps can cause more problems than what you need as solutions. So, sometimes, you may prefer keeping your default Android wallpaper and screen because other apps will bring their issues, and thus, having a photo that works fast even with a normal calling design is better all the way.

There are more apps to try and test, however, I don’t recommend wasting the time with tools that can steal your personal information and data, but if the app asks you to allow access to the information you know private and sensitive, then, decline it and use another app. The only thing that an app may need is to access your contact list and sometimes your photos if you want to add a custom picture.

So, make sure you learn about your device, what features it has, and what are risks that you should be aware of. All that can help you save your smartphone from online threats, hackers, and those who can access your details anytime and from anywhere.

In conclusion

If you’ve installed other trusted apps for Android and worked for you, you can suggest them in your comment. And if you found any issue with the above-mentioned solutions when calling someone, you can tell me more about them and what causes the problem. The feedback can help users and also Android developers to make their tools work faster, better, and never affect your device’s RAM and speed.
